Welcome to Peking House

Tommy Yam and his family established Peking House in October of 1980. Mr. Tommy Yam originally was a local Chef in Kinnelon specializing America, French and Italian cuisine. On his day off with the family he was seeking out for an authentic Chinese family style restaurant. After trying a few around the area Chef Tommy and his family decided that they should open their own restaurant so at least they have some home-style cooking they can enjoy. Chef Tommy has now come to a small obstacle where he is a professional chef in other international cuisine but Chinese was not his main forte besides home cooking.

Chef Tommy and his wife Vivian decided to open a simple Chinese food take-out place in the Stop & Shop Center, Butler, NJ. Peking House has been serving the Butler, Kinnelon-Smoke Rise & Kinnelon Estate, Bloomingdale, Riverdale, West Milford, Stockholm, Oak Ridge, Highland Lakes, Pequannock, Pompton Plains, Oakland, and Wayne area for over 33 years. Chef Tommy has the expertise in multiple types of cuisines and Vivian has her smiley personality to serve the customers was a best dynamic duo in leading to a successful business of 33 years which your able to still enjoy today. Today Chef Tommy and his staff specialize in authentic Chinese entrees featuring Hong Kong Cantonese, Szechuan, and Shanghai style. Peking House also offers Gluten Free and vegetarian dishes with fresh Chinese vegetables including Chinese Broccoli “Gai Lan,” Sautee Baby Bok Choy, and Snow Pea Tip Leaves in fresh Garlic and much more.

Peking House began as a simple local standard Chinese take-out establishment and over the years has expanded to a liquor and package goods store making it more convenient for their customers as a one-stop-shop. As the business grew over the years the customers in the community and friends and family were requesting a sit-down dine in experience from Peking House. In the late 1990s, due to popular demand Chef Tommy decided to venture on expanding their business into a full dining room, full bar and a spectacular international buffet. Since Chef Tommy has a wide variety of cooking styles under his belt he decided to begin an “International Buffet”. This is a collaboration of American, Italian, French, and Chinese dishes for the customer’s to enjoy. Chef Tommy is known for his flavorful Roast Prime Rib, Shrimp Francais, Seafood Pasta, Kung Pao Chicken, Volcano Pork, Steam Fish in Ginger Scallion, Honey Shrimps, and his homemade soups from scratch including Lobster Bisque, Potato Leek, New England Clam Chowder, Hot & Sour, Vegetable Bean curd, Chicken Corn Mix, and Chicken Spinach Soups. Peking House has now established a great buffet for Lunch and Friday & Saturday Nights; weekend nights features: Roast Prime Rib of Beef, Oysters on a half-shell, large peeled Shrimp Cocktails, King Crab Legs and much more hot dishes. Everyone always knows that they can count on Peking House to open for all Holidays and special celebrating events and any snowstorm or foul weather. In the main dining room Peking House is available to have private functions, meetings, and parties for small or large groups of any occasion and available for off-site catering.
